LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- The two-year doping ban given to Spanish tennis player Laura Pous Tio was upheld by the top court in sports.
Pous Tio tested positive for the banned diuretics hydrochlorothiazide and amiloride during the 2007 Wimbledon qualifying tournament. Her ban started in October of that year, but she appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The court rejected her contention that she "bore no fault or negligence or no significant fault or negligence," CAS said on its Web site.
The court also upheld the disqualification of Pous Tio's results from the Wimbledon qualifying tournament and subsequent events. The 24-year-old player will be eligible to play again Oct. 1. She held a career high ranking of No. 75 in 2005.
