Canadian Daniel Nestor will defend his doubles title at the French Open this weekend after he and Serbian partner Nenad Zimonjic defeated Russians Dmitry Tursunov and Igor Kunitsyn on Thursday.
Nestor, the Toronto left-hander who won the doubles crown last year with former partner Mark Knowles, and Zimonjic edged Tursunov and Kunitsyn 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals.
The second-ranked Nestor and Zimonjic, the only seeded duo left in the doubles field at Roland Garros, will face off against Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas and Luis Horna of Peru in the final.
The South Americans booked their spot in the final with a 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (8-6) win over Brazilian Bruno Soares and Serb Dusan Vemic.
"I'm excited for sure," said the 35-year-old Nestor, who joined forces with Zimonjic after last year's U.S. Open. "Four weeks ago, we were struggling to win matches. We turned it around to reach the Rome final and then won Hamburg. We've played well here."
Nestor and Zimonjic will be playing in their fourth final of the season. They lost in Indian Wells and Rome but claimed the Hamburg title on clay last month.
"We're playing pretty solid," said Nestor. "Today was different from our other matches, we had to come from behind.
"We can't expect to win every match as easily as we have been. Today we had a few more loose errors, some double-faults and maybe not as much energy. But we fought hard and hung in there."
